Ohio River Basin
Congressional Caucus
The Ohio River Congressional Caucus addresses critical economic, infrastructure, agricultural, environmental, and community issues within the Ohio River Basin. These issues impact the Ohio River basin, covering over 200,000 square miles and including 55 Congressional districts in 14 states. The goal of the caucus is to ensure support from Congress and the Administration for programs and projects essential to the Ohio River and Ohio River Basin.
The caucus was formed in 2009. U.S. Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and U.S. Congressman Steve Driehaus (D-OH) announced the formation of the bipartisan caucus. The caucus is currently co-chaired by Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) and Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09).
On Dec. 17, 2024, Ohio River Basin Caucus Co-Chairs introduced the Ohio River Restoration Program Act to the 118th congress.

Ohio River Restoration Program Act

Once passed, this historic bill will establish an Ohio River National Program Office within the United States Environmental Protection Agency to convene states, local governments, interstate compact agencies, tribal nations, and non-governmental organizations to work in conjunction to secure federal funding opportunities and design an action plan to carry out pollution prevention, workforce development, community resiliency, habitat restoration, and other clean water objectives for the region. Although this is the first of likely several iterations, the release of the Ohio River Restoration Program Act is an immeasurably important milestone for the Ohio River Basin and its communities.
